Welcome, leec! :welcome

Recovery was my 'in case of emergency - break glass' thing - for that 'someday' when I needed it. It was my little life preserver.

If I failed that, what then?
I felt the same way, and the "what then?" part was just too terrible to contemplate. I'm so glad none of it is as scary as I thought it would be.

I hope your interview yesterday went well, and that you are still hanging in there!

I feel your pain and fear, it was once mine. AA is a trip. My first meeting was a friday night and I was terrified, but I am stubborn and ballsy so I went in. It was nothing like I thought it would be, it was warm and comfortable and felt normal if you will. My second meeting was downtown, and at noon, and there were some really hard luck cases there. I learned a lot, and thanked my lucky stars that I hadn't lost my kids and ended up under a bridge or in prison.

I have been sober 13 months, I have been going to AA meetings for about the last 3 months. I found enough help and inspiration on SR to get recovery started, and in AA meetings I have found face to face friends, support, love and understanding. In San Diego, there is bound to be a huge AA community, and lots of meetings to chose from. My hope is that you went last night, but if not, I really think you should give it a try today.
