something is majorly stressing me out to drink

I know this is a long shot and Im sorry if its rude but anyone know a lot about cats :( we have aquired a kitten from my daughters friend who wasnt allowed to keep her. She was spose to be 6 weeks two weeks ago but I would say shes only that now as she still has blue eyes. I have no money or car so cant take her to the vet but the poor wee thing is dehydrated has bad diarehea is letargic :( Im feeding her on dry kitten food little and often and have found some electroytes that i used on my youngest as a baby that Im putting in her water . Im so futsrated as I used to be avet nurse ( 16 years!) but with my alcohol damage I cant remember what else to do :( Im distraught and once again I hope you all dont mind me asking this

I wish i coukd help but I can't. Try googling things like dehydrated kitten or something like that. Whatever you do don't take a drink. That won't help that little kitten.

angie9 01-16-2009 05:12 PM

thanks its tearing my heart out :( I feel so helpless at the moment

Dee74 01-16-2009 05:12 PM

I'm sorry Ang - I'm not a cat person either - try googling as Fubarcdn suggested?

And don't drink sweetie - it won't help you, it won't help the kids, and it certainly won't help the cat.

I hope some smart cat person will be along soon :)

thanks Dee its hard as its stressing me but Im looking on the net at the moment

Do not give her bovine milk. There is a milk replacer that they sell at Wal-mart, K-mart, petsmart etc. She really needs that to get her GI tack back under control. She will eat the dry food becasue she is starving but it will only dehydrate her more which can lead to more problems. I hope that this helps.

Yea, I think dry food is a bad idea Ang.

Fubarcdn 01-16-2009 05:30 PM

There is a cat fancier group under user created social groups. Why don't you post there and see if you get more info. At least Blackshirt has given you a good start. Perhaps you can call a pet store in your area and they can give you some additional advice. good luck.

Im giving her water with electrolyes I bought at the chemist for the kids maybe give her moistened kitten food?? actually Ive just done that. Im spooning the water with the electrolyes about five mls every half hour? Shes bright well to a point not like a normal kitten

As a cat lover, I can imagine how you're feeling. I googled "dehydrated kitten" and there is quite a bit of suggestions out there.

Have you tried just calling a vet? Explain your situation and I imagine they would be able to tell you some things that may help.

I'll be thinking of you. I need to go find my cat, wherever he' sleeping, and give him so loving right about now.

Good luck Hon and God Bless You for caring for this kitten,
Judy

Hi Ang --

Just read this... Last year I rescued 5 wee ones (from 2 weeks until they were about 5 weeks old) and we used the milk replacement -- KMR I think.

We relied pretty heavily on this site: Hand Raising & Bottle Feeding Orphaned Kittens

Hang in there, and in addition to prayers your way -- keeping fingers and toes crossed you end up less stressed. You can only do your best, Angie. Don't be too hard on yourself.

Hope this helps!

Ang,

My handy animal first aid book says you can give cats Kaopectate for diarrhea. This might help with the dehydration. Hold off on the food for a day or two then go with a bland diet for a couple of days.

Good luck, I hope you both make it!!

I love cats too. And know how it feels for you. I was freaking out dropping my cat off to be fixed the other day.
But..I dont know jack about kitty health.
You have gotten soem great suggestions.
Just dont drink. It wont help any. And then you will be useless to do anything about the kitten.
Good Luck.
