Chronic relapsing.... make a vow.

Anyone who decides to drink today, before you take that drink:

YOU are making the conscious CHOICE to drink, YOU and YOU alone.

YOU know exactly what YOU are doing (yes, YOU do, don't fool yourself.)

YOU can place false blame on anything you want, but YOU are choosing to drink.

YOU need to honestly admit it is YOUR choice and be HONEST.

Now try this - make a vow, and keep your word, that you will post here BEFORE you take the drink. No one will/can stop you from drinking, you can still take the drink, so don't worry about that, just post here BEFORE you take the drink. Soooooo many people post after they take the drink - but this time, stand tall, be the person you are, post here BEFORE you drink - instead of coming in here after you've done it.

Anybody up for making this vow?

bugsworth 07-12-2008 07:43 AM

Tommy, Great post!!

The choice is always up to the individual, ALWAYS!!!!!

While I have not had the desire to drink for along time I'll make the vow!

JPat 07-12-2008 07:45 AM

I'm in. I promise before I take a drink that I will post to this site first.

I definately fall into the "chronic relapsing" category

I need to put more effort into staying sober - thanks TommyK!

buttercup1 07-12-2008 07:51 AM

Count me in too!
I am very guilty of posting after I have already taken that 1st drink so today, I promise to post here first. Maybe that will make the difference for me...thanks for giving me the strength:-)

adore79 07-12-2008 07:55 AM

Count me in.

Amelie 07-12-2008 08:02 AM

Can i join in too. A chronic relapser here! Will keep you posted.

HideorSeek 07-12-2008 08:04 AM

Count me in too. I vow that I will post here before drinking. I will also post daily on the "Chronic" thread. Thanks Tommyk

least 07-12-2008 08:21 AM

I too will come here before running to the "bottle shop". Great idea!:ghug2

colagirl 07-12-2008 09:04 AM

This is a great idea, I'm in. Thank you.

Surlyredhead 07-12-2008 09:11 AM

I want in too!!!!

Jersey Nonny 07-12-2008 09:34 AM

Great idea! Another would be to call your sponsor, if you have one. The one time I relapsed (after 90 days in AA), my sponsor asked me, "Why didn't you call me?" My response, "Because I knew you'd try to talk me out of it." Well, Duh!!!

Amelie 07-12-2008 10:17 AM

Not going to give in

Horselover 07-12-2008 10:25 AM

Its an awesome idea! Type before you drink that first one. I'm in!!!

sct 07-12-2008 11:49 AM

Yeah, definitely.

PupMum 07-12-2008 12:36 PM

I'm in. I usually wait until sober again to post . Thanks heaps for this post Tommy

dancinggirl 07-12-2008 12:44 PM

Well, i'm new here...and I know i'm drinking tonight.....so here's my post. :(
My ex/current/who knows anymore?/.....is going back to his town tomorrow. Can't seem to be around him without drinking...don't know why! He's great and he doesn't drink. But he did end our marriage and disappear for two months without seeing if we were ok....and I'm still bitter. Sigh.

whiskerkissed 07-12-2008 12:47 PM

So just don't drink dancinggirl. The bitter will still be there when you sober up. Learn to deal with that now, hun. You'll be ok...:-) Keep talking.

tommyk 07-12-2008 03:24 PM

I am seriously enthused, touched, and totally psych'd up over the amount of people here who want to quit drinking and are willing to try this out. I love you, I'm here for you.

H.O.W?

Honesty, Open-mindedness, and Willingness.

Together we're gonna make it happen. Seriously, I'm overwhelmed by your willingness.

Hevyn 07-12-2008 03:39 PM

Add me to the list, Tommyk - this might've saved me back in January. Love, Joanie

Dee74 07-12-2008 03:52 PM

we don't have to wear a T shirt with your face on it, do we Tommy?
LOL

it's the peer support that SR gives like this that keeps me coming back...
Good job all of you.

I'm in.
D

Aysha 07-12-2008 03:59 PM

Me too..I have been doing that alot lately.
And let me tell you.
It has worked. So I am not coming here the next day or week and saying how much I hate myself.

buttercup1 07-12-2008 04:13 PM

I am keeping true to my promise tommy......I just got home from Mom's and really want to drink...haven't yet though. I am posting here first. What can I do right now to get through this craving??????????????

Dee74 07-12-2008 04:29 PM

try and think of the consequences of drinking buttercup...think about how bad you felt last time, maybe?.

Try and remember too - cravings are just feelings - we don't have to act on them, and they do go away...

Got anything you can do - watch a movie, listen to a CD, phone someone...?

Distract yourself :)

D

Buttercup - Keep posting. You do this girl! It shall pass. When I have intense cravings I get on the puter and read and read. Go all over SR. Its kind of fun. Can you take a walk or a nice long bath?? Baths will come you. Good book to read? Someone to write to? Maybe jot something down in a journal? Just trying to help. Hugs and prayers for you Buttercup. I'll keep checking back - hope you do too!!

HideorSeek 07-12-2008 06:19 PM

Buttercup...please hang in there, not only for yourself, but for the rest of us as well. We all need each other right now to get over our personal humps (day 3 for me is a particularly tough one, so I may be in your shoes then). As each of us passes a hump, everyone else feels inspired and empowered. So PLEASE hang in there and know that you have a cheering section all over the world sending you hugs, prayers and communal strength.:Val004:

Let me interpret this for a quick moment - You can do this girl! . . . Baths will calm you.

Just re-read and noticed I had screwed up quite a bit. Still waiting to hear back from Buttercup! Come on kiddo!

buttercup1 07-12-2008 06:26 PM

I'm back and haven't drank yet:-) I took a long hot bath with a good book and just made a pot of coffee. Who ever said that the craving passes in 7 minutes is right...it did for me. I feel great right now and am sooo glad i posted before I had that drink. Thanks tommyk for starting this. Any other time I would've had the drink and then posted but tonight it's different...can't wait to wake up sober tomorrow!!!!!
