I keep thinking that I should be doing more. Now that the blinkers of alcoholism have been removed, I can see the world properly and I see that I'm in a position to help. I'm able-bodied and I have a loud voice.... a really loud voice. I want to be an advocate for people who get overlooked. I've sent off a couple of application forms to become a volunteer for the Alzheimers Society. I figure I can spend a few hours each week trying to make a positive difference to someone else's life. But I want to help the homeless too. And the blind. And I want to help in an animal shelter. I spent so many years wrapped up in the self-absorption of addiction and now I'm free, I want to help everyone. All or nothing, that's me. Ever the addict. I need to take a deep breath and approach this with some moderation. I'll wait and see how my applications with the Alzheimers Society go and take it from there. My only regret is that I didn't try to become a better person whilst my dad was still alive. I would have loved him to see the person I'm becoming. Maybe he does. Maybe he's the one guiding me along this path. Congratulations Abcowboy! I look forward to your quotes every day. 24 more for me please xxx |
