For those of you who are racking up a bit of time now, you may have come across or heard the term PAWS bandied around on here.

I came across this excellent article article recently which does a very good job of explaining what it is and why it can account for the myriad of conflicting emotions you might go through in an average day.

The final sentence in his summary is an obvious one but something we can all too easily lose sight of:

"Recovery is not about quitting alcohol and drugs. It is about learning to live a life that does not require mood-altering chemicals to be worth living."

Anyway, hope it is of some small benefit:

Last night when I got home from work, I made myself a snack, as I was sitting down in front of the TV to eat, I realized.

I didn't have a craving all day.

I didn't notice the bar I used to stop at as I was riding past it.

My AV must be mad at me because it didn't speak to me all day.

I ate, and watched TV with agreat big smile on my face!

Went to bed looking forward to day 26.

Nice to see all the pics of everyone!!!

Stay strong and stay connected

Ken

And FYI...I use to live in Key West and then Big Pine Key. I'm soooooo jealous. I do know that it if it weren't for the ocean it would be a little difficult for me to maneuver around Sloppy Joes just now. I didn't drink when I lived there so I actually got to enjoy a lot other things other than the night life. Great job Ken finding sanity in Key West!

Proud of that one, given the context.

360,

I have lived in Little Torch, Summerland and Ramrod before I moved to Key West, now I'm actually in Big Coppitt.

The Duval Street scene never really interested me, too expensive and too many tourists. I would only make it there maybe 5 times a year.

Going to try and get back to getting out in the ocean, thats why I moved here in the first place.

I'm sure the Purple Porpoise Pub misses me, but I'm sure they will survive!!!

If I remember the Purple Porpoise Pub correctly, not only will they not mind, but they probably won't even remember. I have a 5 your seat has already been taken. :) not that you aren't unforgettable, I just know drinking people. I've been one of them.
Much better to be on a boat and diving in my opinion. The sunsets, oh, the beautiful sunsets!

Phebe, the up and down thing got better for me. I'm pretty balanced now. I did have to use that goofy feeling chart with all the different faces on it at first. For me, it was all everything great or everything bad. Now I can sort of identify if I'm just p'o'd or frustrated or whatever. Just me.

I felt like a 2 year old when my therapist gave me that. Really? a sheet of paper with all the different feelings on little cartoon faces. Uh, I actually needed it on occasion. Makes me laugh now. I may make my own for those who Botox their foreheads like me.....

Wait, the therapist gives you a little sheet of paper with cartoon 'feelings'? And you are to do... what? You'll have to expand on this type of 'therapy' lol...and maybe share a picture of the chart!

Hey all

Hope y'all are good.

Was just in the bath and found myself singing and enjoying myself (who'd have funked it)

Anywho wanted to share part of a track as I felt a rather good song for my sober self (if you have not heard Noah and The Whale, I recommend)

Well he used to be somebody
And now he's someone else
Took apart his old life
Left it on the shelf
Sick of being someone
He did not admire
Took up all his old things
Set em all on fire

He's gonna change
Gonna change his ways
Gonna change
Gonna change his ways

And it feels like his new life can start
And it feels like heaven

Hi,
Hope you`re all ok. Black I really hope you manage today ok.
I`m feeling really low today, remembering some of the things I`ve said when I`m drunk is awful! I have rung the addiction councillor and have an appointment for 12:30 Monday-a week earlier than I was going to. I need to get myself sorted-I don`t want to go back and end up sad and lonely.
Going out later to stop myself thinking too much. Hope you all have a good day.

I used to not be able to go out in public for weeks because i was worried who
i would run into from some of my drunken nights out, that i could not remember. i thought if i dont go out for a few weeks, people would have forgotten me by then.

somone told me, " you need to get out and be seen SOBER"

its in the PAST !

we can't walk around in shame, otherwise the alcohol wins.
people are going to see you in a new light

:)

Hi all
Black I hope the funeral went ok. Is your wee dog all recovered now?
Clight, I hope you manage to get the help you need to cope with your anxiety, as you are obviously keen to try AA
Natty for once you have proved yourself useful, I read the link, very informative. Don't make a habit of it, we may not recognise the new helpful you!
Sand girl, the link may be informative for you as it explains mood swings, in fact I recommend everyone to take a look. But for goodness sake no complimenting Natty on his brilliance - he is far too big headed as it is!
As for learning an instrument I may try the bagpipes, being as I am an old windbag already!

I hope you all are having a good day, eve, night etc keep well, keep strong, keep safe keep sober. :MusBand:

Wise advice Toots. I seem to have made a habit of everything else I've tried.
