Grateful I am an alcoholic today i am grateful to be an alcoholic. Bc of it (through sobriety) i have - met people who genuinely care - found comfort in doing nothing - found a Higher Power who can understand me - learned i dont have to have an answer - become honest - treat people with respect - do things for people just to do them - become spiritually healthy - like who i am and - actually enjoy life - good and bad i watch "normal" people who may never get to experience what i have gotten bc i am an alcoholic... they will never have to be honest with themselves or anyone... they dont have any restrictions or threats that could possibly lead to a drink and their demise... they go on day to day never knowing all of these things bc they will never be forced into my situation. |
Great perspective. I'm feeling it. Instead of being ashamed of all my mistakes, I'm pretty proud I survived. I've seen the shadow within, and I'm crawling out of the whale's belly. All the while, I'm getting down to the funky beat. I've learned a lot, and I now understand myself and others better. I am unique. People don't know me. For so long I haven't wanted them to know me. I could tell stories that would drop jaws. I negotiated bumpy roads while juggling a double life. I am an enigma. I am a survivor. |
