Grateful I am an alcoholic
Grateful I am an alcoholic
today i am grateful to be an alcoholic.
Bc of it (through sobriety) i have
- met people who genuinely care
- found comfort in doing nothing
- found a Higher Power who can understand me
- learned i dont have to have an answer
- become honest
- treat people with respect
- do things for people just to do them
- become spiritually healthy
- like who i am
and
- actually enjoy life - good and bad
i watch "normal" people who may never get to experience what i have gotten bc i am an alcoholic... they will never have to be honest with themselves or anyone... they dont have any restrictions or threats that could possibly lead to a drink and their demise... they go on day to day never knowing all of these things bc they will never be forced into my situation.

Great perspective. I'm feeling it. Instead of being ashamed of all my mistakes, I'm pretty proud I survived. I've seen the shadow within, and I'm crawling out of the whale's belly. All the while, I'm getting down to the funky beat. I've learned a lot, and I now understand myself and others better. I am unique. People don't know me. For so long I haven't wanted them to know me. I could tell stories that would drop jaws. I negotiated bumpy roads while juggling a double life. I am an enigma. I am a survivor.
