Quacking at My Door!!

Just sharing a smile this morning.

A pair of mallard ducks have adopted me, confirming what I always believed...I AM a duck magnet. :D

These two come to collect seed and nuts that fall from my birdfeeder and silly me threw them some of their own....definitely an enabling move *sigh*

Now they come knocking, with their beaks, right up to my patio door. Even Toby has made friends with them now, once he got over being startled...

This is Daisy Duck...

And her husband Dougie Duck...

Wow! See the look in daisy's eye! Where is my food!? I once had a duck in my front garden, I decided it needed a 'run-up' to fly and maybe that is why it got stuck there, then it saw my cat and took off like a rocket. Strangely my cat is called Daisy lol.

aasharon90 04-23-2007 04:59 AM

Awwww Ann...i want one....lol Maybe 2....

Soooo sweet..... What a joy.... I think...lol

Quack Quack Quack... :)

Ann 04-23-2007 05:00 AM

Ah yes, they have that charming pathetic look of "please feed me NOW" and the more I ignore them, the more they quack and perform their "duck dance".

This codie is a little out of practice in dealing with ducks and I have to confess I have been drawn in to their lives even developing some affection for the feathered quackers. :D

I can pick them out, yes even of about 50 pairs out on the water in front of my place. I could swear I saw them waving and laughing and telling their friends...yes I DID.

Soon Daisy will have babies, and I will do a "family portrait" if she swims them past my house.

Hugs and Quackers

stone 04-23-2007 05:04 AM

Nothing wrong with a bit of 'codie-ness' with our furred and feathered friends. I am a total sucker with animals, I was gonna volunteer at a cat rescue place but I know I would just take them all home. :)

bookmiser 04-23-2007 05:08 AM

Awww, Ann.

Your so lucky to have them so close.
I love birds, wild ducks, and geese.
Great pics, too. Wow! They really get up close and personal, huh?
Thanks for bringing me a morning smile...
Love to you, and your fine feathered friends,
http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...dmorningto.jpg
lots more pleasant surprises. lol

Ann 04-23-2007 05:09 AM

Me too, Stone, I'd take every one home and become "the strange lady with cats". :D

It's quite a site to see them waddling up from the shore, like two ducks on a mission, heading for my deck. Here's a little shot of them on the lawn after I shooed them off my deck for pooping on it.

mooselips 04-23-2007 05:29 AM

Ahhh aren't they just the sweetest!

(I too, have a weakness for the "quacking" thing.)

You are going to keep feeding them, right?
you know once you start, it's hard to resist the REAL quacks.

I love ducks.

Thanks for sharing, it brought a smile to my face after a hard night....

itiswhatitis... 04-23-2007 05:46 AM

awwww ann,

that's sweet - have you ever read *if you give a mouse a cookie*? - be careful now that the ducks are up to the door - you know what'll happen if you let them in to the house don't you????

have a great day...

love,
s

Lovestoomuch 04-23-2007 05:51 AM

What lucky ducks to have found you Ann!! Sort of like all of us here.

tropikgal2 04-23-2007 05:56 AM

How darling!! I love the pics--they're just "ducky"...!!

hope3 04-23-2007 05:56 AM

Ann, thanks for the smile.

Now, if I start seeing pictures of your

ducks sitting in front of the TV with

Toby, I might get a little concerned, not.

hee, hee, quack, quack, hope3

Ann 04-23-2007 06:02 AM

Okay, more confessions...

I have found myself attached to more than quackers, it's the critters with the bad rap that I find so cute. This was last spring, mama and baby fox (there are two families each that had 4 babies) and contrary to their bad reputation, they "respect" cats and are not at all aggressive, just more cuties from the wild...

http://img440.imageshack.us/img440/9696/foxes6qz0.gif

And one of two groundhogs that visit me most days....this is Digger and she is will be having her babies very soon...

http://img72.imageshack.us/img72/635...ndhog07zh2.gif

I LOVE spring, can you tell??

frankie_b 04-23-2007 06:16 AM

Ann, one of these days Daisy and Dougie could arrive with at your door with little fluffy ducklings trailing behind. I have a feeling there's more to this quacking story
on the horizon. Have fun!

hope213 04-23-2007 06:27 AM

ann, you just attract "babies" of all kind.they are all so sweet.thanks for sharing.

Mavis 04-23-2007 06:33 AM

Ann, that's adorable!

splendra 04-23-2007 06:41 AM

i used to live in the country near a pond, and i adopted many ducks. they would knock on my front door and i would chase them around the yard with my garden hose on. they loved it! silly duck lady.

CatsPajamas 04-23-2007 06:49 AM

Ann,

I think I have found my new mission. I, too, am a DUCK magnet... perhaps I would do better to let the feathered kind into my home and life as opposed to the human kind...

Here's a little shot of them on the lawn after I shooed them off my deck for pooping on it.

And there you have it, folks. Confirmation that ducks of all kinds - they poop on your deck.

parentrecovers 04-23-2007 07:42 AM

oh yes, they do poop!

i'd say everything about this thread is just ducky! (sorry, couldn't resist...)k

How great are your ducks.... My Aunt, who lives in Boise Idaho, has ducks that hang out on her porch, Daisy and Daffy. Along with a family of racoons. My mother has many squirells, Blue Jays, racoons and the occaisonal mountain lion. I myself only have wild rabbits, meadowlarks, doves and the occasional falcon. He is sitting in the birdbath I have next to my pond. I was very shocked to see him so close to my house. Glad he didn't start fishing my pond. I have a 1000 gallon pond in my backyard stocked with Koi and goldfish.

Hey, I want to be a duck magnet. Darn it, where do I apply? :)

Thanks for the great pics!

Thanks for sharing these pics...how terrific! I'm not surprised you attract all the babies, Ann. I just came back from my lunch walk at work. It's so cool...in an hour I can walk from the city, over the bridge to a beautiful setting along a tow path on a canal....We finally have gorgeous weather...I know it is just a teaser at the moment, but I'll take it! Lots and lots of turtles out on the rock and limbs in the canal...And driving to and from work, I see the foal...I love Spring too!

helpus 04-23-2007 04:14 PM

Thanks for the smile Ann. A freind of mine has a place on the lake & has become like the mama duck. She had 2 of them walk up many many stairs (yes walk not fly) & came on her deck & pecked the window, like ah duh..wheres our food, your tardy.
Now not sure if this counts as animal cruelty but, we were having a get together, & were down on the beach w/ hours de ours, one of which was duck quasedias. Yeah, we fed some to the ducks, was that wrong?

Ann 04-23-2007 05:33 PM

That was very wrong, Helpus. :twak: :D

Thanks to those who shared their critters, and that falcon was magnificent. It's amazing the smiles and serenity these little friends can bring us. I find such peace just sitting on my deck watching the birds over the water.

It's the beauty of spring, summer and autumn that make the snowy winters here worth tolerating.

Hugs

It is a special feeling when nature comes to you!

A few years back when I had a daycare here, I had the kids out for a walk and a duck landed behind us and came for the stole, all the way back home. He kept returning everyday and soon he brought his mate. I went and bought duck food then after they were done eating they would fly up to the nieghbours pool and have a bath, but as you can imagine the neighbour was not to happy about it and kept sending his dog out after them....so off I went and bought a blow-up pool for them.

They kept coming back for 5 years, Dixie and Trixie did. We lost him with a neighour car, took him to the vets to try and save him....they sure did bring joy...
