Forum shorthand Every so often, someone asks what the acronyms mean. I've tried to pull together all the ones I've used and remember seeing. Can you add the ones I've missed? I know I've skipped all the child, sibling and parent ones! H - husband W - wife GF - girlfriend BF - boyfriend MIL - mother in law FIL - father in law AH - alcoholic husband AW - alcoholic wife AGF - alcoholic girlfriend ABF - alcoholic boyfriend Now to get a little bit more advanced: RAH - recovering alcoholic husband RAW - recovering alcoholic wife RABF - recovering alcoholic boyfriend RAGF - recovering alcoholic girlfriend STBXAH (and also be written as STBEXAH)- soon to be X alcoholic husband STBXAW - soon to be X alcoholic wife STBXABF - soon to be X alcoholic boyfriend STBXAGF - soon to be X alcoholic girlfriend We then progress to XAH - ex alcoholic husband (I was so happy to finally be able to use this one!) XAW - Ex alcoholic wife XABF - Ex alcoholic boyfriend XAGF - Ex alcoholic girlfriend You can also get RXAH - recovering ex alcoholic husband RXAW - recovering ex alcoholic wife RXABF - recovering ex alcoholic boyfriend RXAGF - recovering ex alcoholic girlfriend OW - other woman Don't think I've seen OM for other man used but maybe I missed it! ACOA - adult child of alcoholic(s) Codie - codependent person Alanoid - Mike (deserteyes)'s descriptor for an Al Anon person. Quacking - noise an active alcoholic makes to try and hook you back into the drama. Not sure about the more general ones though. LOL - laugh out loud (happens more than you'd think with this forum!) ROFL - roll on the floor laughing I think KWIM is 'know what I mean?' and IMHO is either 'in my honest opinion' or 'in my humble opinion' not sure which. Add more please!! |

I've heard another translation of "DH", but you can use your imagination. :) |
