Please Stay On The Sober Bus Pt 58 |
shotgun? |
Morning and welcome to a shiny new sober bus thread. I got all setup and started recording the neighbor's birds nest yesterday to post a quick video here today. But unfortunately, there was no activity! Hopefully the baby bird got it wings and they are gone now. On a bright note I saw a bumble bee today. First one I've seen this season, One of our sunflowers has bloomed and will hopefully attract more bees. I need to plant more flowers next year. This year (and last year) was a it of a bust for flowers. On the bus! |

Thanks for the new chapter Dragon! On the bus, coffee in hand. Happy riding all! |
I have carpenter bees here. They are as big as bumble bees, and they are sweeties. I was so afraid of them when I first saw them, being an Aussie. I am allergic to bees, and in Aus you get attacked if you are not careful. Here, I go to water my petunias and they are sitting there sucking up the goodness. They don't even mind me, just politely get out of the way until I am finished. :) And ON ❤️ |

On the Sober Bus! :bus |
!! Carpenter bees cost us a fortune here. I think you're renting, though? I would be in a panic if I owned that property. They ate through a stairwell support structure on my stairwell. It was a big deal. |
Oh, I hear you. They makes holes in the fence. But yes, I am renting. I did think I should tell my landlady, but she lives in the same street, so I imagine she has them at her house as well. |
Yikes; carpenter bees are very destructive. They are hard to treat, too, as once they have made their initial entry into a wooden beam, they then tend to continue tunneling at an angle. We had them on a support beam on a porch when living up north. We had some success in treating them using a spray can insecticide with a straw-like attachment in the nozzle and adding our own bendable straw to “round the corner” and treat more deeply into the tunnel. I can’t remember for sure but we may have treated the wood itself with some kind of a deterrent. On the Bus, feeling somewhat better each day. Love to all. |

I have lived here for over five years now, in this apartment, and they haven't done much damage. They haven't touched my swing. Just the fence. My landlady does things inexpensively, and she never gets her fences weatherproofed or treated in any way. So I guess that is why they are burrowing there. Honestly, not one person besides me has noticed. |
Hi Leigh! :wavey: |
It is probably more environmentally friendly to replace a fence slat than to treat the fence. Might be less expensive, too. I cringe each time we have to use a pesticide and try the natural solutions first. Sometimes, though, there isn’t much of a choice. Sigh., sweet Aly. |
I'm on the bus with Billie. :) |

On the Sober Crazy Bus :bus I was going to ask why they’re called ‘Carpenter Bees’ but I just figured it out for myself. :D ;) :e094: |
