Many, if not all of us in recovery have delt
with shame, guilt, remorse for actions done
while under the influence of a controlled
substance, drugs or alcohol.

Drinking or using drugs would numb
these feelings so we wouldn't, didn't,
couldn't face what we did head on or
answer for our unruly, disgraceful,
shameful actions.

With a program of recovery taught
to us and using them on a daily bases,
then we can come to terms of what
we did, admit it, accept it and work
daily on not committing those acts,
actions one day at a time.

We become honest in all our affairs
which then becomes a strength to
grow and mature on.

Today, I don't feel shame, guilt or
remorse for my actions because I
continue to live my life in recovery
incorporating tools and knowledge
taught to me and live a sober life.

Not repeating old behavior is what
will insure a healthy, happy, honest
sober or clean life.

What kinds of things have you used to stay sober in the past?

Welcome back Stubbs. What are you prepared to do this time to make it your last? Can we help?

I know there are many good Intensive Out Patient (IOP) programs, where you go after work. Could you look into those? You wouldn't have to lose time at work, and it would keep you focused on a daily basis and keep you busy.

I know you can find a way to quit - there will be discomfort, but you can do it. You deserve a good and happy life. :)

Hi Stubbs - someone explained to me how to use the multi quote - it works well if you want to try it!

On the bottom of posts you want to respond to hover your cursor over the the symbol with quotation marks and a + sign. You can click on several if you desire from different friends.

When you reach the last one you want to reply to hit quote all the way to the left and all will then be listed for reference as you reply!

Glad you're here with us, hope is a flower that requires the water of change........

Fly N Buy, thanks for that tutorial! I've been in vBulletin forums for years and never figured that out!

Stubbs, you asked how IOP programs work...I have not been to them, maybe you could do some online research or post a new thread asking for, "How does IOP work?"

I'll bet you could call any local treatment facility and ask questions. It seems there are meetings several times a week and then individual therapy and then suggested AA meetings for some of them. All I know is what I've read on this site or heard in an AA meeting.

Thanks, Bimini! Am trying the quote system out....

Stubbs, I can totally relate to the shame and guilt making it harder to quit. Honestly, once you get some sober time - even a small amount - you start to feel that lifting off you gradually, and it becomes addictive in a very good way! You can do it, Stubbs. Your marriage can be good again. You obviously care very much about it. Go for it!! Make those positive changes :-)

Like Linkin Park says.... "I'm breaking the habit.... TONIGHTTTTTT..."

Stay sober my friend, we support that 110%
