Clean & Sober with Michael Keaton and Morgan Freeman is very good and quite realistic.

BBC-Rain in my Heart

Try watching the channel 4 documentary The Wet House on youtube. In many ways I find that one more disturbing than rain in my heart although both are very grim....

Based on the reviews in this thread I decided to check out "When a man loves a woman." Really well done. Thanks for the recommendation!

The Basketball Diaries.

The Fighter is another great movie. I guess I kind of have a thing for Mark Wahlberg.

Soberwolf 11-03-2014 04:48 AM

This movie is amazing.

I don't believe it's on Netflix anymore, but 16 Years Of Alcohol (2003) is a good movie dealing with addiction and recovery.

Crazy Heart

Crazy Heart (2009) - IMDb

If, no one has mentioned it!

Watching House of Cards on Netflix. Fascinating dramatic series about the workings of our government. It addresses alcoholism and recovery through a significant character, an alcoholic congressman. In the middle of it, so anxious to see how it plays out. Worth a watch.

Someone (I can't remember who!) on SR recommended My Name was Bette--Wow. It is a documentary done by her daughter....I will NEVER drink again.

Spacegoat 01-07-2015 08:11 AM

It's been mentioned already but after Requiem 'The Basketball Diaries' is what I think of.

And it's a good one, a true story…

More of a documentary man myself, you will find no shortage in that genre.

Trees Lounge is a great movie, although it isn't the most uplifting. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0QCOOdJIPqk
