Did you go to rehab?

I weighed my options and didn't go to rehab just went to a lot of meetings.

I was curious how many did rehab first.

God no! That would have meant that I was alcoholic!

MIRecovery 04-24-2015 06:34 AM

I went to two Intensive Out Patient Therapies and would recommend it. Learned a lot of good stuff and was pushed toward AA for on going support. There is a lot of science which AA doesn't get into. IOP got me sober AA keeps me sober

I was told to go to intensive outpatient by the courts (probably would have wnet voluntarily anyway). the program, for me, lasted 5 weeks. Overall it was helpful, but the bulk of what I learned about how to be sober has come from AA>

I went 4 times. But this last time, when I was ready, I did NOT go to rehab and jumped into AA.

Best decision I ever made.

Yeppers Chris, I did attend a 28 instay
rehab program with a 6 week outpatient
aftercare program attached some 24 yrs
ago after family did an intervention on me
and the courts issued an order for me to
attend.

I've listened, learned, absorbed and applied
the AA program of recovery for a many one
days at a time sober to get me to where I
am today.

Healthy Happy Honest all to the best
of my human ability. :)

Once, in 1989. Had a lot more to say but it's kinda pointless since I'm drinking.

SoberCAH 04-24-2015 01:26 PM

Yes, I did a 28 day program in 35 days (they kept me because the liked me so much, I think) in 1988.

I listened to what they said and did what they told me and haven't had a drink or drug since the day I checked in.

I just went to AA,no rehab
what,go 28 days without a drink?
I couldn`t see it back then

GracieLou 04-24-2015 01:47 PM

No treatment, rehab or IOP. I just crawled into an AA meeting.

I never even considered it to be honest. I have health insurance I guess I could have went but the seed of AA was planted ten years ago and that is the first call I made and where I remain today.

Carlotta 04-24-2015 01:55 PM

I went to rehab in 2001.
This time around, I knew what to do: got back into the steps and to AA.

MIRecovery 04-24-2015 02:04 PM

I ended up in AA because they said I couldn't graduate unless I did. I went pi$$ing and moaning.

I saw a bunch of healthy happy people and I thought maybe there is something to this AA crap. So i made the fatal mistake of going to another meeting.

1000+ meetings latter and going on 6 years there might just be something in this AA stuff

Did not attend rehab...........sort of jealous of those who had that opportunity though, sometimes......

You must have been reading those Fix articles about rehabs with massages, limo services and dry cleaners. Look on the flip side, it could also be a Salvation Army or County rehab where you are in a feet smelling dorm with 20 snoring guys at night :lmao
I think rehab is great for people who need a break from their environment so they can focus on healing. I needed a break from myself.

48heath 04-24-2015 03:11 PM

No rehab for me,.

Bailey3 04-24-2015 03:33 PM

No and, by the Grace of God I won't have to.

A six week outpatient program was my gateway to 12 step recovery
and long term sobriety.

Sobriety for me took many years. One of my issues has always been financial pressure for many, many years. Since I was 18 years old there's been no safety net.

Married with kids at 23 - now 55. There have been times over the years where I really thought a time out - 60 or 90 days to regroup and have some therapy would have been very helpful.

Anyway, I am glad to be sober now - and yes I never went to rehab. And NO I never read the Fix = garbage!

But, a little respite in Malibu doesn't sound bad! Maybe a way to celebrate a year :)

Gottalife 04-24-2015 07:20 PM

Went to ten week rehab, no AA, drank again. Went to AA, never drank again.
