Most alcoholics have jobs, pay the bills, participate in families. That's really nothing special or something of merit. It's common. It's ordinary. It's the overwhelming majority.
I've come to see that every alcoholic who is not completely committed to recovery is very much a non-functioning emotional partner. There is absolutely no way to have a deeply satisfying, secure, intimate emotional relationship with an active alcoholic. I've never seen one example - and I know a
lot of alcoholics, both active and recovering.
