First of all, welcome Jross!
It's funny, but I was just talking about that very thing in an online recovery meeting the other day. My Dad was an alcoholic all the while I was growing up. I swore up and down that I would NEVER drink like he did. Guess what, I ended up drinking even worse than he did! When I was 17, he finally quit and he never touched another drop for the last 31 years of his life. When I turned 43 (in 2009), I decided to follow in his footsteps once again and quit drinking. It's now been 11 and half years of recovery for me. I only hope I can also stay sober for the rest of my life, just like Dad! In the end, it doesn't matter what anybody else did, WE can control our own destiny!!
