Today is the first day in almost a month that any of my family has been allowed out of self isolation and I took my dog for a little walk around the streets around my home. The calmness and quiet of everywhere really struck me. And something else. Our irrelevance. The trees and the flowers and the birds are continuing as normal. They don't need us to be out there, rushing around. If anything, they're doing better without us. Really made me think. So I came home and wrote down what I was thinking. I'm not very good at writing poems so it's not very good but it sums up how I felt on my walk and if nothing else, reading it will waste a few moments of lockdown

When this is all over

When this is all over
The sun will still shine
Not because it's someone's wedding or a bank holiday
It will just shine.

When this is all over
The mountains will still be
Not because of the views and potential for selfies
They will just be.

When this is all over
The sea will still move
Not because the beach stores are selling surfboards
It will just move.

When this is all over
The earth will still turn
Not because Christmas needs to follow Halloween
It will just turn.

When this is all over
Something else will still decide
Not because we've made mistakes and can't be trusted
It will just decide.
