I want to add - I used to drive drunk. I got caught 3 times over the course of 15 years. It is morally reprehensible. I see that clearly now. In my alcoholic brain I could justify it, somehow. Of all the things I did while drinking, driving over the limit is the thing I still feel intense shame about. I thank the universe EVERY DAY that no one ever got hurt. And I will never ever take that chance again. The only way I can be 100% assured I won't take that chance is to a) never get behind the wheel of a car or b) never drink again. I choose B.
