I too agree with AWAL and FeelingGreat.
In my family of origin, I was roped into these events long after I had moved out of the house. My family culture was that, it was expected that I attend. To do so was FULL of meaning for them, and proof that I was still obedient to them.

Since cutting those ties, Christmas has become mostly a religious holiday for me. The other holidays and my birthday is just another day off. There is no emotional punch left there.
