In this part of Colorado, the San Juan Range is called 'Little Switzerland'. The Peaks are much younger than the Rocky Mountains over around Boulder. Indeed, in the old Mining Town of Ouray ['ur ray'], ya run into Swiss and German Folks who've been going there for Decades because it reminds them of The Old Country. Having been in/around the Alps several times, I can see the similarities. In the foreground of the Webcam Image below, the blue is the Natural Hot Springs Pools we hit occasionally. On tap this Fall for MesaMate's Birthday just celebrated is a 1/2 Day Jeep Ride up some 4WD Trails where I'll let a Pro do the driving so I can look around for once.

Not far from there, the San Juans can be seen in the original True Grit, and in Tarantino's The H8ful Eight.
