Hi dizzyj, how are you holding up today?

Carol answered your questions about withdrawals and gave you a link to read. Don't worry about the sugar thing right now, it will help when and if you get shaky. If you were anything like me, when I was drinking I wasn't eating so after getting the immediate alcohol out of my system I'd eat like there was no tomorrow. It was a horrible cycle, drink huge amounts, stay passed out/blacked out (usually on the weekend), Monday would come and I'd scale back to my pint a night and be sick as a dog Monday and Tuesday unable to eat and shaking. By Wednesday I'd start to get my appetite back and Thursday and Friday I'd eat a lot and do it again. It is no way to live! Sober is so much better!!!! One thought that got me through the worst of it was this....... if I get through this without taking a drink I will never have to do it again if I don't want to. I also made lots and lots of meetings!

Hang in there and it will get better. I am not bi-polar but my son and sister are so maybe I can answer a question. My sister went through a period when she was combining her psych meds with PCP and ended up for 3 months in rehab. My son is lax about even taking his meds but having watched me with the drinking he won't drink and I don't think he's done anything else except smoked.

Anyway, I just wanted you to know we're out here and we're pulling for you. If you find yourself up again tonight and nobody to talk to, look at past posts and gain some experience strength and hope! Sleep disturbance is very common and will resolve itself over time. In the meantime be nice to yourself, try to relax, take warm baths, catch up on reading or movies or whatever helps you to pass the time.

Hugs,
Kellye
