Hey Jimmy, I was taken to my first meeting by the guy that 12 stepped me, so I already knew a few things.
I knew I didn't have to speak if I didn't want to. I didn't say a word for about six weeks. Listening did me a lot of good.
I knew I would see some steps on the wall which I may not like, but I knew an alcoholic of my type must take them if I want to recover.
I knew that there would be some people, probably only a few, who had taken those steps and could help me with them.
And I came to know that expecting to somehow absorb recovery through my seat in meetings, and not actually doing anything else, was not going to work.
It is easy to get the impression that going to lots of meetings will fix the problem. There is more to it than that.
