A Powerful Message
I went to a meeting tonight, as I have everyday since last Monday. I’m only on day 12th and I depend on the strength I find in that room. Tonight a member shared a sad story about her friend who lost their life this weekend to this disease. It was heartbreaking to feel her pain, and eye opening to be reminded that our addictions want us dead. Something that really stuck with me is when another member shared about how we rarely think of those around us while drinking. We think we are only hurting ourselves. It made me realize that thirteen days ago as I lay in my bed wanting to die to get out of the misery of my alcoholism, my child’s heart broke in the next room. My mother missed my phone calls this last year as I got very deep into my addiction. I’ve abandoned friends in need. For what? For poison.
Today I’m grateful to be sober and I’m grateful for each and every one of you!
