Even with many days sober behind me,
I still have to go to the grocery store and
yes, alcohol, is still there, standing proud,
just waiting like it always has to bring
another person down.
It doesn't care who it attracts or kills.
I have my recovery tools learned, memorized,
studied, practiced, incorporated in my life now,
so that I know exactly what to do when alcohol
is present, tempting, talking to me, trying to
take me down.
I wear my recovery coat of armor ready
to fight against it each and everyday I
walk in the store.
Alcohol isn't going any where's and I
have to accept it. But I do know how
to avoid its traps and stand strong with
my amour ready to fight to protect my
recovery and sobriety that keeps me
healthy, happy and honest in all my affairs.
