I was detoxed with Ativan personally, but a friend of mine just finished up a 21 day tapered detox with Librium. He was a 2-4 bottle of cheap fortified wine a day drinker with crippling physical withdrawals and was homeless because of his alcohol consumption. He is now 26 days sober. He stayed with a friend of ours who is Psych ER/trauma specialist, so she was able to keep an eye on him and make sure that his detox was safe. He said that the first few days were shaky, because of the combo of malnutrition, the withdrawal symptoms that broke through the taper medications, and the effects of the higher dose of the Librium for the first few days. But, after five days, he was healthy enough to go out and find a job and about a week later he was able to find a room to rent. So all in all, his experience with it was what kept him alive.
