Pay no heed to that disembodied voice in your head. Don't even waste your time or energy debating with it. It doesn't really care what you think, anyway. It only wants one thing, and therefore everything that it says about any drinking, now or in the future, is automatically dead wrong.
It will see your hard-earned raise simply as a means to buy more alcohol, then destroy your hard-earned raise, then ask for more. Until such time as there is nothing left to take.
