I posted this on my blog but wanted to share it here
10 days dry, like a drought in the summer
The thought of a sip consumes me
Like pool water when I Dive in it.
But this time, I'm in it to win it.
Freedom from an alcoholic exsistence.
Free of pain from not drinking or taking pills from prescriptions.
I want to be here and be clear headed.
Embedded, with self discipline.
Control over what once controlled me
For that which once controlled me, is still out there, awaiting my self destructive demise.
But, I try,
Because you can't get what you want without effort.
And with my higher power as my Shepard
Only the sky is the limit.
Though I may not be finished,
Completely,
Today I am sober
and tomorrow is another battle.
But today is today.
