Three years ago I REALLY recognized I needed to stop drinking. I couldn't string together more than a week sober. I stumbled upon this site, explored AA, and read up on everything I could. I still couldn't commit even after two years.
But I kept on trying.
My mistake on my first solid attempt was this statement "I will never drink again!!" Hours after making that statement I drank again. So remembering the "one day at a time" rule, I have had my longest run of sobriety. Today, I will not drink. Just for today.
Thank you, Jennifer, Countrygirl, wherever you are. On September 14, 2015 I read your post. "Just for today" was formally adopted by me and has remained so even more true to this very day.
