Sad day today as our family cat had to be put to sleep this morning.

She was 17 or so and had kidney failure so it was time to do the kindest thing but it's always heartbreaking..

My 2 sons are 8 & 6 years old and they are both devastated, we've all been in tears most of the afternoon, having to tell them both and see their faces when I explained was awful.

We decorated a cardboard box with bright colours and stars and put her in with a few "treasures" that the boys wanted to put with her to keep her safe and some pictures of us all and our other pets so she wouldn't be lonely...

All the time we were decorating the box my youngest son kept going back to her (I'd laid her on a blanket on the bed) and stroking her, talking and comforting her, being really loving even though he understood she was dead. When I asked if he was ok he said "Yes, I'm just making sure she doesn't get scared".

Now I'm in tears again...

Sorry for the long post everyone, it's a lot of fuss over a cat you good folks never even met.

Sleep tight little girl, we miss you x

So sorry!
Our second last cat Tilly had to be put down at round 20: kidney failure too.
Took Fatboy to the vet today for his shot, he's 11, in reasonable shape.
Even lost a bit of weight.
