"Often, on a hot Saturday afternoon in the summer, Dave and I would open a six-pack of beer while sitting out in the yard. I’d run in the house to use the bathroom, guzzle my can in under a minute, then replace it with a full beer from my stash, which would contain the same size and brand beer, because I planned ahead. In this way, I’d have maybe four beers down, still pretending to be on my first, before Dave opened a second. At which point, I’d say to Dave, “Is that your second beer!? You’re getting way ahead of me!” "

Sober Mercies

I'm guilty of having done this as well. Not only hiding drinking on occasion but convincing my husband I drank less than him. So sad. The more I analyze the more I see that much of my excessive drinking has been me trying to get away with something- sneaking. My little secret in my hum drum life.
