I can relate sooo much to your situation. I'm having horrible pain right now in two teeth.
My experience is that pain medication is sometimes needed. If you take just enough to stop the pain (but no more than prescribed) then addiction is not an issue. It's when the drug is taken for motivations other than pain relief that a problem develops.
