Start of something new

Hi, been looking at these pages for sometime and about to take the plunge. I am now past 60 and have been drinking about 6 to 10 standard drinks per night for about 40 years. Seem to get by but as I am getting older the more this habitual drinking is affecting how I enjoy life and I suspect my health. I am coming up for a hip operation in 4 weeks time and saw this as an opportune time to stop drinking to improve my health for the operation - and lose a few kg's. Its morning here so no dramas now as I never have my first drink till 5pm. If I am back here tomorrow morning I will have gone without for 2 nights and that would equal my record in 40 years. If I fail - and I don't intend to - I'll be too embarrased to resurface. Wish me luck.
