My favorite one is "Jill Bolte Taylor's stroke of insight." A neuroscientist who has a really bad stroke that essentially turns off her entire left hemisphere; but gradually enough that she's fully aware of what's happening... finds it the coolest experience ever... and recovers fully, so she can write a book and give talks about it!
