Hi N. I am completing an online recovery programme and it points out that all human behaviour can be traced back to either seeking pleasure or avoiding pain. There is an exercise where you write a list of all the painful, embarrassing, harmful things that have come from your relationship with alcohol...the Before You...really feel the difficult emotions these memories conjure up. Then write a list of all the positive things you can do now you're sober...the New You...the goals you can achieve, the relationships you can repair, the dreams that are now possible. Associate as much pain as you can with alcohol and as much pleasure as you can living sober. This may help remind you of what you stand to gain by staying sober and what you stand to lose my drinking...keeping you firmly on the wagon.

Wishing you well on your journey x
