Compulsion or misplaced priorities-fashion?

What I see as misplaced priorities I'm also beginning to see as a compulsion. Not only is the alkie/addict OBSESSED with his appearance it is that priority that is making problems worse financially and practicality. He has become ever more obsessed with appearance to the point where he only likes to wash clothes right before he wears them to avoid wrinkles or look new. This leads to piles of clothes all over the place. He now refuses to use hangers and will not fold clothes. They must be laid out on surfaces to avoid hanger or fold creases/marks. Won't even use drawers if clothes must be folded. In the meantime other aspects of their personal physical domestic life are atrocious and a disorganized mess-literally.

Personally I think it's misplaced priority but is it a compulsion or someone simply being fussy?
