We certainly went to "any lengths" to get alcohol.
And I probably do the same with respect to coffee and soft drinks (including seltzer waters).
But I never lost any jobs or had police intervention with respect to my love for coffee, soft drinks, etc.
As an aside, I used to regard beer as a soft drink when I was young.
