I like looking at pics and videos of abandoned buildings, malls, stadiums. My favorite is sprawling psychiatric hospitals, abandoned or functioning. I grew up near two such sites, Pilgrim State Psychiatric Center and Kings Park Psychiatric Center, both of which treated WWII veterans for "shell shock."

We used to drive through Pilgrim State while drinking beer at night, just to scare ourselves and each other. I needed to drive throug Kings Park center on the way to and from both school and work. It's a huge campus among wooded land that used to have it's own LIRR stop, grocery store, post office and everything else you'd expect to find in a small town. Employees generally lived on site. Some of the houses there are beuatiful old colonials.

I'd love to take a walk-throug in both places, but I don't think that's on offer. Whenever they were available, I'd apply for jobs at Pilgrim State, just so I could walk the hallways (in addition to the work).
