"Coming Out" to my mom as an alcoholic...

I just had my first conversation with my mom in which I referred to myself as an alcoholic. I'm sure it's been in the back of her mind with my past drinking experiences - especially while living with her - but we've never used the term before.

She told me how she grew up with an alcoholic father who could never admit his condition. She said that she was in denial about my condition, quietly hoping for the day that I would change. She said that she feels like today was that day.

Thank you to everyone who reached out to support me yesterday. Your encouragement has motivated me to start re-attending AA meetings and continue communications with my sponsor. Your stories have helped me realize more about the nature of my alcoholism, but also the hope that remains for my recovery. Even more importantly, you've helped me feel like I've never been alone in my struggles.

I love you all. Thank you.
