yes, i've wondered about dementia....if i get dementia, will something in the brain turn/click/differently-connect and will i forget that i'm an alcoholic?
i've watched my mother, who has dementia, drink and enjoy a beer. she's never, in her entire pre-dementia life, liked beer.

makes sense that changes in the brain translate into other changes.
