Doesn't have to be a battle anymore. For me, the battle was while I was still drinking. Getting sober isn't easy but it gets easier over time. I do not feel I'm in a battle at all anymore.
The turning point is at the point you decide to get sober, and stay sober. And for me, that meant no matter what happens, I do not drink. I have to remove that option. Can no longer play that card.
