It's stupid. They strip search you in the beginning but they allow you to be alone with friends and family while you're there during visiting hours. The friends and family can bring in almost anything. The strip searches make you feel like you're in jail. Honestly if I had to choose between jail and a psych ward I'd pick jail every time.
