Hi JennyB welcome. I am new too and struggling with quitting, giving up my 'best friend'. I thought alcohol was my best friend for a long time like you and often quoted this fact as one of the reasons I couldn't give it up. Believe me when I say it is your worst enemy and no friend. Would we let a friend treat us this way. I wouldn't. So I am struggling with this also but I know I have to do it and so desperately want it. I think you can to.
