Welcome HappyFree. Here's how I'd suggest going about the 2 questions you have above.

1. Just go to AA. Your embarrassment is unfounded, everyone is there for the exact same reason you will be so just go. Good things will happen.

2. Worry about your problem rather than what your husband thinks about it. You are the one with the problem after all, not him. You can certainly have conversations about it with him, but you will have to accept the fact that he may never truly understand alcoholism....it's hard enough to grasp/accept it ourselves. He could come to open meetings with you or al-anon too if he was interested in learning more.

Sobriety is yours for the taking - but you have to take concrete actions, and some of them will not be comfortable at first.
