Love this response. I think you are not the first to discover one their "drinking buddies" was not a friend. It's almost like when you stop drinking...you regain consciousness. You look around and think "WTF?"..who ARE these people??? I'm ashamed to say that in my last sobriety there was a woman I pretty much avoided...not because she was a trigger really..but because ...well, she sorta bores me to tears without alcohol. Well..guess who I wanted to get together and catch up with when I relapsed? Yup.
With respect to your experience, you really have to wonder about someone provoked to actual rage when you won't drink with them.
I'd say you hit a nerve on fire...just because someone doesn't act like a dufus and embarrass themselves or get sloppy when drunk..doesn't mean they are not alcoholic.
