Hi temperfox, it's great that you've realised you don't want to hurt yourself and others, and have decided to stop drinking. You'll find lots of people on these forums who have been through the same feelings of disgust and guilt.
It helps to have a plan and support. I used SR, but I believe AA has helped many to stay sober. I also looked up alcoholism on the internet and learned as much as I could. Be careful of the time when your inner voice will start convincing you it's ok just to have 1 or 2 drinks.
