Hi Spike, although I think AA is effective or even miraculous for some people, it's not for everyone. I have never been to an AA meeting, or any other sort of recovery program. I credit SR with keeping me sober after the initial year.
I agree socialising is more fun with a couple of drinks, but it's not worth it for me because it would get me back into the habit of drinking too much.
