My Dad was a very "high functioning" alcoholic. He quit drinking and at the age of 50, He started & earned a Masters degree in Sociology, specializing in chemical dependency...not to practice it, but to try and aid his 5 children, who were all at one time alcoholic or alcoholic addicts.
