after getting my blood work i talked to my doctor about it and he said if i can control it to a few standard drinks a few times a month i should be ok.

I'm sorry, I hope I'm not out of line here, but I don't think this is very good advice from your doctor.
If you have any sort of liver problem, I do think you will be so much better to accept and embrace sobriety, and thus, not put your health and well-being at risk.
