Forgiveness

Forgiving someone doesn't always mean forgetting what someone
did or said to you.

We have to remember the things that pass between us and others,
the painful things, for the mere fact that we may need to avoid
repeating the same mistakes. We need to learn the lessons.

Maybe in the future it's best that we set clear boundaries with
certain people who tend to want to cross them and interfere with our
peace of mind, or harm us or we need to avoid situations which
bring out the worst in us.

What forgiveness for me means, is that I allow myself to move beyond
the past incident that I believed was hurtful, I stop dwelling on it in my
mind. I have to let it go. I have to release the anger I feel towards them.
Or it eats me up.

When we forgive someone it does not mean we have to allow them
into our lives again to once again cross our boundaries.

Although I always keep in mind that everyone is going through
their own spiritual journey and my mind is always open to allowing
someone back in my life if their behavior is changing.

I know I would want others to forgive me for I have
done much harm. I would hope they would allow me to
repair the relationship if I am making changes.

But to me it means to let it go. It's over.

Holding onto unforgiveness is only a poison to us. It keeps us in turmoil
and steals our peace.

To forgive is to set the prisoner free and realize that prisoner was you.

There comes a time in your recovery when you realize that having
a calm and peaceful mind is really special. And the anger and
unforgiveness just isn't worth it.

I know it isn't always easy but I have found that praying for people I
have resentments towards does something.

Maybe it does not change them or even the situation (often
it does) but it actually changes my own heart, it softens it.

But when I pray for them I am saying that I am still a human being
and I have compassion. I personally want everyone to find
peace and be at their personal best .
