Simply "not drinking" never worked for me bndb. Have you tried any of the other methods like AVRT/Smart/etc? Or how about seeing if there are any outpatient or counseling programs in your area? Don't completely dismiss AA either, maybe try a different meeting or try having a more open mind.
I'm guessing binge drinking "isn't for you" either, right? Getting sober means change - and you won't like some of it initially, but it's worth it in the end.
