Alcoholism is a progressive illness. Everyone starts out having a great time. Most still work and make dinner regularly. Many excel at their jobs and have nice families. At the beginning.
You could be perfectly fine now working, meeting all of your responsibilities, and having a great time. Time goes on and next thing you know...it's not as much fun anymore and it's really hard to stop.
